Summary of Practice
|
His principal interests are Intellectual Property, Competition Law and, somewhat unusually, Town and Country Planning. In common with most members of chambers he advises and acts generally in relation to Chancery-Commercial matters.
In addition to his experience at the English Bar he has appeared as an advocate in US State and Federal Courts, dealing with Antitrust, Trade Mark and Patent Disputes and general commercial litigation, as well as before agencies of the US Government including The Patent and Trademark Office and The Federal Trade Commission.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
Acts and advises on all aspects of UK and US IP Law. Non-contentious IP work includes, in particular, advice on US IP law and the provision of specialist assistance in the drafting of licenses and know-how agreements with a US dimension. He speaks regularly on Intellectual Property matters including UK and US Patents for Computer Implemented Inventions. He is mentioned on the Legal 500 internet site for his IP work and is the author of a recent two part article in the Leeds and Yorkshire Lawyer dealing with developments in Intellectual Property Law in 2003.
COMPETITION LAW
Acts and advises in relation to both domestic and European competition law. He has been retained by the DTI in relation to the execution of a Warrant under the Competition Act at the request of the European Competition Commission and is advising one of a number of businesses charged by the Competition Commission with infringements of the Part I prohibition in the Competition Act.
PLANNING & ENVIRONMENT
Acts for property developers, landowners and planning authorities in relation to planning inquiries and appeals, statutory and judicial review proceedings and in relation to Section 179 and Section 187B enforcement proceedings. He has recently acted for a substantial landowner in relation to enforcement proceedings brought by the Peak District National Park Authority.
