Recruitment

PUPILLAGE for 2009/10
Over recent years we have expanded in line with the increased requirement for specialist counsel from large regional firms and the Leeds based Mercantile Court. As part of this process Chambers is able to offer a pupillage each year with a view to a tenancy. In selecting a pupil we are looking for a potential member of Chambers who has the ability and motivation to succeed in building a practice in Leeds.

Details – Chambers is able to offer one 12 month guaranteed pupillage commencing October 2009 to an outstanding candidate wishing to specialise in either Commercial or Chancery law. The successful candidate will be selected not only for their academic ability and their potential as an advocate but also for their ability to demonstrate good commercial awareness. Candidates need to have an exceptional academic record with a First or high Upper Second degree or with prospects of the same (special circumstances will be considered). Chancery House Chambers adheres to and supports the Bar Council's policies on equal opportunity and non-discrimination.

Funding – An award of £35,000 accompanies the pupillage and is structured so as to provide a £15,000 grant for the first six months (of which £6,000 can be drawn down at the commencement of the BVC) and guaranteed earnings of £20,000 for the second six months.

Applications – Applications should be by application form which can be downloaded by means of the link below or from Jonathan French, Chambers' Pupillage Officer. The closing date for applications is 6 June 2008. Jonathan can be contacted for any further information. Interviews will take place over a weekend at the beginning of July 2008. If Chambers identifies a suitable candidate it is intended to make an offer during the first two weeks of August 2008.

MINI-PUPILLAGES
Chambers recognises that mini-pupillages are vital for anybody considering a career at the Bar and, in particular, those seeking pupillage with Chambers. They are useful in that they provide the mini-pupil with an opportunity to experience life in a busy specialist commercial set of chambers. Applications, incorporating a CV, should be directed to Jonathan French, Chambers' pupillage officer.

APPLICATIONS FOR TENANCY
In line with Chambers' policy of expansion, applications will be considered from individuals of all levels of experience. Applications and enquiries will be treated in the strictest of confidence and should be directed to Gregory Pipe, Head of Chambers.
